Key Responsibilities
Key Responsiblities For Digital Archiving Specialist
- Develop, implement, and maintain digital archiving policies, workflows, and metadata standards to ensure long‑term preservation of diverse digital collections.
- Conduct ingest, quality assurance, and validation of digital assets from internal teams, partner organizations, and external contributors.
- Manage the lifecycle of archived content, including format migration, integrity checks, and de‑accession processes in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to design scalable storage solutions and automated preservation pipelines.
- Provide expertise in digital preservation formats (e.g., PDF/A, TIFF, WAV, MP4) and emerging technologies such as containerization and blockchain‑based provenance tracking.
- Lead training sessions and create documentation for staff on best practices for digital curation and metadata creation.
- Monitor industry trends, standards (e.g., OAIS, ISO 16363), and emerging tools, recommending enhancements to Google’s preservation infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years professional experience in digital archiving, digital preservation, or records management within a large‑scale organization.
- Proven proficiency with archival management systems (e.g., Archivematica, Preservica) and content repositories (e.g., Google Cloud Storage, AWS S3).
- Strong understanding of metadata schemas such as Dublin Core, METS, and PREMIS.
- Experience with scripting or programming languages (Python, Bash) for automation of ingest and validation tasks.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
Desired Skills
- Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) or Society of American Archivists (SAA).
- Knowledge of machine‑learning techniques for automated content classification and metadata extraction.
