Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities For Network Engineer (Remote Monitoring)
- Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot network performance across Cisco’s global backbone and customer environments using advanced monitoring platforms (e.g., Cisco Prime, AppDynamics, Splunk).
- Respond to alerts and incidents in real time, performing root‑cause analysis and coordinating remediation with cross‑functional teams.
- Develop and maintain automated scripts and playbooks (Python, Bash) to streamline fault detection, ticketing, and remediation workflows.
- Conduct capacity planning, trend analysis, and performance reporting to proactively identify potential bottlenecks or outages.
- Collaborate with network design, security, and operations engineers to implement configuration changes, firmware upgrades, and security patches while minimizing service impact.
- Participate in on‑call rotation, providing after‑hours support and detailed incident documentation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of monitoring tools, dashboards, and standard operating procedures.
- Mentor junior engineers and share best practices within the remote monitoring community.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in network operations, monitoring, or NOC environments.
- Strong understanding of routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS) and network technologies (LAN/WAN, VPN, QoS).
- Proficiency with network monitoring and management tools such as Cisco Prime, SolarWinds, Nagios, or equivalent.
- Experience scripting in Python, PowerShell, or Bash for automation tasks.
- Relevant certifications (CCNA, CCNP, or higher) are required.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a distributed team.
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Knowledge of SD‑WAN, SD‑N, and network virtualization technologies.
- Experience with RESTful APIs and network telemetry (gNMI, NETCONF).
- Exposure to ITIL/ITSM processes and ticketing systems (ServiceNow, JIRA).
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and knowledge‑base articles.
